Tiny Art Gallery & Our Give-back Project
Our annual community fundraiser and give-back project
This year Open Studios Kommetjie will once again join together as a collective to create a delightful tiny art collection in collaboration with the TINY ART GALLERY (TAG).
Each of our artists have been tasked with creating a piece of work, in their preferred medium, that emulates the artist’s current body of work. The gorgeous tiny artworks, roughly 6-8cm, will be on display in Kommetjie for the month prior to the Open Studios weekend of 29 Nov-1 Dec.
Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to our Giving Back beneficiary, HopeTown.
HopeTown, Ocean View – “Life with Passion & Purpose”
Every year, we contribute to a project that supports our local community.
We are delighted that the Give-Back Project 2024 will once again be HopeTown in Ocean View.
The ethos and work being done by this organisation is so very valuable and we can see first hand where previous donations have been used for maximum benefit.
Feedback from last year’s (2023) investment from the Give Back Project
‘Five young people from very challenging backgrounds, who had dropped out of mainstream school because of many different issues, found fresh hope in our HopeTown Academy. That is five people less on the street, less in danger to join gangsterism and who are in a safe environment now. And it is so much more than a normal school. One of the students said it perfectly. “I did not just find a school – I found a family.”Aside from the school kids who were able to be back in education, One unemployed teacher from Masi got a job in our school and another teaching assistant from Ocean View also is employed by us! Job creation is also happening through our school initiative. And these employees are great people with a huge heart for the youth. Thank you all for your great contribution towards our HopeTown Academy.’ Doris Lindsay, CEO & Founder of HopeTown OV.
HopeTown, Ocean View – “Life with Passion & Purpose”
HopeTown is an existing NGO with credibility and traction in Ocean View, our nearest community.
They reach a number of children, older youth and some young mothers.
Our fundraising efforts this year will go toward the much needed new creche. Almost half of the attendees have young children and, to commit to the programme, attendees need to know their children are safe. It also creates jobs as caretakers will be employed, and the children benefit from a safe and wholesome environment. It’s a win win!

Some of the criteria considered to make our decision were:
- that the organisation needs to assist our local community. Ocean View, as our closest neighbour, would be ideal
- to have a management framework that will use the funds optimally
- to have been operational for some time with a track record and have a structured, achievable ongoing plan
- to have an internal accountability system
- to be inclusive – that is, people can’t be excluded from assistance based on religion, etc.
- to have our contribution used to uplift lives, working with groups & individuals, with an aim to reach vulnerable young people.
HopeTown is a community of young people who want to change and grow in life.
There is huge unemployment among the young people in Ocean View. Those who have dropped out of school, often have no chance to get a job. HopeTown believes this doesn’t need to be the end.
We want to see them grow in social skills, work ethics, character, teamwork, quality control, self-confidence and to become more job-ready for their next step in life.
