  • Theresa Wormser @twceramics_sa began working with ceramics 30 years ago and has been based in her Kommetjie studio for the past 20 years. Throughout this time, she has explored a wide variety of ceramic processes and continues to enjoy this ever-evolving journey.
Wormser often textures the surfaces of her hand-rendered or slip-cast ceramics with mark-making techniques inspired by found objects or fynbos collected during walks around the beautiful Kommetjie landscape. Natural tones and hues are reflected on her ceramic surfaces through a combination of oxides, stains, and dipped glazes. For Wormser, capturing the essence of a process, object, or idea is more important than achieving perfect representation.

  • Nicolette Geldenhuys @nicolettegeldenhuys focuses on printmaking but works across various media, incorporating collage, painting, and drawing to produce diverse edition work. She is a member of The Printing Girls, an all-female printmaking collective, and has exhibited at numerous galleries across the country.
Geldenhuys aims to create artwork that evokes dreamlike states of searching and being. Her inspiration comes from exploring emotions and feelings related to the mystical, unexplained, and divine, as well as themes of trauma, tragedy, hope, resilience, and the mundane. In her printmaking practice, she enjoys using techniques such as drypoint engraving, chine-collé, monoprints, collagraphs, and collage. She also has a passion for painting and illustration and likes to experiment with combining different media and techniques, including using prints as collage elements or backgrounds in her artworks.
Since moving to Kommetjie almost six years ago, Geldenhuys has been deeply influenced by her surroundings. The local fauna and flora that she encounters daily have become integral to her work. She is committed to experimenting and pushing the boundaries of her media, striving to achieve new and fresh outcomes in her art.

Michelle Beattie @mishvania_art brings you her intuitive art sculpted from ocean plastic. In 2024, she had her first solo exhibition and currently has work exhibited in London and galleries in Cape Town. Her sculptures highlight the severity of the ocean plastic pollution crisis, inviting viewers to engage in constructive conversations on how to address this issue. “If I don’t show you, you will not see!”
Growing up in Plettenberg Bay, Michelle Beattie cherished her days on the beach, captivated by the ocean’s beauty and collecting what she affectionately called “Mermaids’ Tears.” It was only later that she discovered these were plastic nurdles, the raw material of plastic production. This realisation sparked her passion for environmental advocacy.
Motivated by a growing awareness of the severe impact of plastics on marine life, Michelle felt a strong urge to raise awareness about this issue. In 2020, she discovered the power of art to convey her message. By sculpting with unaltered beach-found plastics, she aims to give the ocean a “voice.”
Her art serves as a poignant reminder of our shared responsibility to embrace sustainability. Each piece tells a story of transformation, reshaping ocean plastic pollution into captivating artworks that invite reflection on our environmental impact. Through her creations, Michelle seeks to inspire a deeper commitment to protecting the environment.

Adrian Owen’s adrianowen.co.za work as a fine art, portrait and figurative artist has almost always been centered on the structures of our shared experience. His creative process is based on raw experience and experimentation, and at times it is very methodical and technical. He is currently focusing on a new body of work that centers on a marriage between detailed portraiture and a measure of abstraction. Additionally, he freelances commercially as an illustrator in the publishing, advertising, film and television industries.
In 2021, he was one of four artists selected for the Nando’s Creative Exchange in partnership with Spier Arts Trust, an annual group art exhibition hosted at the AVA Gallery. This exhibition was first established in 2011 to recognise emerging South African fine artists who demonstrate exceptional ability.

Theresa Wormser @twceramics_sa began working with ceramics 30 years ago and has been based in her Kommetjie studio for the past 20 years.

Nicolette Geldenhuys @nicolettegeldenhuys focuses on printmaking but works across various media, incorporating collage, painting, and drawing to produce diverse edition work.
