Meet the Artist

Karen Elkington

Karen Elkington studied fine art at Ruth Prowse School of Art, Cape Town and graduated with distinction in 2021. To date she has had three solo exhibitions with Rust En Vrede, Everard Read and Ebony and shown work at the 2024  Investec Cape Town Art Fair. She is primarily a painter who combines figurative and abstract elements to create thought provoking imagined scenes, reflecting current issues. She repeatedly places a couch in a landscape to represent our apathetic response to environment crisis and our tendency to put material comfort ahead of finding solutions. She likes to make installations for shows, often using furniture and  household objects to communicate ideas.  She is currently working towards a solo exhibition at Everard Read inspired by the landscape around Elands Bay  and the undercover yet devastating  threat to the beautiful West Coast of South Africa.
