As a theme in her art practice, painter Kim Black has always gravitated towards the freedom that nature represents. Early on in her career, she chose flowers as a symbol of this.

Kim believes that nature not only affords us insight and awe at the power of creation but also holds the power to both soothe and energise through its rich assortment of colours.

Kim is known to fully immerse herself in the creatively wild act of painting by throwing paint on the canvas, watching the colours drip to form spontaneous tracks, and gliding her brushes with feeling to achieve specific results.

She believes that, in this modern world of AI and screens, our human ability to marvel at the enormity of a world within a flower is a precious gift. Kim’s purpose in painting is to strip away the visual noise of an image-saturated era and draw the viewer into the joy of the present.
