Meet the Artist
Originally from Scotland, Joanne Milne relocated to Cape Town after meeting her South African husband. During the early years of raising her children, she began to explore drawing and painting, eventually falling in love with the creative process. She is now dedicated to painting full-time, working primarily with acrylics on canvas or linen and selling her work mainly through online channels.
Milne draws inspiration from the natural world, striving to portray what she observes with accuracy. However, painting realistically is just part of her approach. She often distorts or exaggerates form and colour to infuse her pieces with drama or sensitivity. Attention to composition is also crucial to her work, as she carefully balances the subject with the background, aiming to tie all elements together in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Milne’s artistic practice is characterized by a delightful range of subjects, reflecting her ever-evolving inspirations. She experiments with portraiture, explores clouds and seascapes, and continues to paint flowers with a distinct passion. Her enjoyment in depicting the varying lights and textures of these exquisite natural forms is evident in her work.
