Meet the Artist

Jenna Burchel’s works give form to narratives that are personal, peripheral, and at times ancient, preserving what is at risk of being overlooked, simplified, or lost. When working with the historical, it is to pry open space for multiple perspectives within a single site, object, or event.
Central to this is a question of architecture: What form can hold a memory, and how does it make that memory accessible?
She works across sound, sculpture, and interactive technology, fusing digital processes with natural and found materials. Fracture and repair recur across her work, as both material method and underlying theme.
Her works often take the form of sound vessels that hold a single memory, sound archives that preserve cultural or historical record, and memory environments that function as collective libraries.
These works exist at many scales, from maquettes small enough to hold in the hand, to large-scale public sound environments and permanent public monuments.
