Meet the Artist

Janet Ormond is an environmental artist who creates powerful works entirely from ocean plastic collected along her local shores. Born in 1982, her deep connection to the sea and mountains inspires a practice that highlights both the beauty of nature and the devastation caused by pollution. By transforming discarded plastic into striking artworks, Janet encourages viewers to reflect on their own impact and to consider more sustainable choices.
She sees art as a universal language capable of sparking dialogue and change. As such, she uses her creativity as a form of activism to raise awareness around conservation and climate challenges.
Janet’s work has received widespread recognition: She was elected a finalist in the 2021 State of the Art Gallery Award, featured among the Top 100 artists in the 2025 Sasol New Signatures Exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum, and received an award at the 2025 South African Plastics Recycling Organisation (SAPRO) Awards for her environmental contributions.
