Meet the Artist

Rodney Band’s practice centres on the creation of large hand-turned wooden vessels that balance traditional craftsmanship with sculptural expression. Born in 1955 and raised in Israel, Rodney began working with logs at the age of sixteen, hollowing them by hand with a hammer and chisel. Years later, discovering the lathe constituted a turning point that led him to his lifelong passion.
Working primarily in hardwoods, particularly wild olive, Rodney sources timber for its distinctive grain, colour, and strength. Using traditional turning techniques, he creates perfectly rounded exterior forms before moving onto a process of hand sculpting, often leaving interiors subtly asymmetrical to create tension and movement within each piece.
Rodney has exhibited nationally and internationally with Southern Guild, Ebony Curated, and Maison & Objet in Paris. He has also collaborated with leading interior studios and luxury lodges, including ARRCC, OKHA, Singita, and Strauss & Co.
