Meet the Artist

Reagan Rubain is a mosaic artist who has mastered the manipulation of his medium over the years. This year, his installations may be viewed at the Imhoff bus stop, the Ocean View entry sign, and the ‘memory benches’ on Kommetjie Island.
Having grown up in the care of a single mother in a poor neighbourhood devoid of opportunities for advancement, Reagan is passionate about uplifting others in similar situations, using art as medium.
In 2011, he started a three-year, full-time apprenticeship in professional mosaic and ceramic art at the Spier Arts Academy. Although he had been creating mosaic art for a while before he started his studies, it is here that he truly advanced his skills and matured as an artist.
Today, he creates mosaics for many reasons — he wants to inspire, motivate, beautify, and spread joy. Seeing others appreciate his work is hugely inspiring to him, and he relishes the human connection that grows from speaking to strangers about his art.
His work features in public and private collections and spaces.
