Meet the Artist

Odette Howell

Odette Howell is a visual storyteller and fine art photographer with a background in editorial media and a deeply intuitive approach to image-making. After earning her National Diploma in Photography, she spent over a decade working in magazine publishing as a picture editor and designer, refining her eye for narrative, visual composition, and emotional tone.

Based in Kommetjie for years now, Odette creates personal photographic series that explore themes of identity, memory, transformation, and emotional stillness. Her work is often autobiographical, drawing from inner experience and inspired by nature, motherhood, and the quiet intensity of everyday life. Whether reflecting on perimenopause, ancestral trauma, or collective grief, her images carry a sense of poetic honesty, rooted in feeling and charged with unspoken questions.

Her photographs have been described as both intimate and expansive, capturing not only what is seen but also what is felt.
