Meet the Artist

Kim Black

Kim Black is a painter obsessed with both colour and the natural form of botanicals. She is relentless in her pursuit of capturing their freedom and complexities in her work. Colour is the essential tool she uses to bring vibrancy to her work.

Throwing paint on canvas and using wild brushstrokes are integral to Kim’s technique. Her choice of large-scale canvases is symbolic of her admiration and respect for the significant meaning behind her florals.

Born in 1970, Kim studied art and graphic design in East London before becoming a full-time painter. Currently, she works primarily on commissioned projects for private clients and interior designers. One of her largest commissions to date was a mural for the Mount Nelson Hotel, measuring 10 m by 3.5 m. Eleven of Kim’s original works are currently displayed at Café Fleur on Vergelegen Wine Estate.

Her vibrant work features in many private collections in South Africa, the UK, Australia, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Amsterdam, Mauritius, Ireland, and the USA.
