Meet the Artist

Jenny Chadwick them/them/she (b. 1973 Nairobi, Kenya)
Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Jenny Chadwick lived in Johannesburg for much of her adult life, working in corporate communication and playing music in various bands. After moving to Cape Town in 2006, she began teaching at a pottery studio in Noordhoek. She then spent a year in Holland, where she joined a pottery studio in Amsterdam and participated in various ceramic workshops.
Upon returning to Cape Town, Jenny established Kommetjie Ceramics in 2010. Today, she produces a range of ceramics, from functional and pit-fired ware to polished vessels and sculptures for potters’ markets, exhibitions, and galleries. Over and above working in her studio, Jenny runs two pottery classes a week and enjoys sharing the space with students.
From 2014, Jenny’s voluntary involvement with Ceramics Southern Africa (Western Cape region), recently rebranded as ‘Ceramics Western Cape’, has been both supportive and inspiring. She considers herself honoured to have served a three-year term as chair (2022–2025) and remains on the committee as an experienced member, while also managing the organisation’s social media platforms.
